Alongside the large, stationary earthen kilns, the first portable potter’s kilns also appeared during the Bronze Age. The disadvantage: they were smaller. This meant that only a small number of ceramic items could be produced in a single firing. However, the miniature kiln was certainly capable of producing a set of tableware for the whole family, or smaller everyday objects such as spindle whorls, loom weights or clay pipes. And the advantage: it was portable. Firing was possible not only in one’s own home, but also in other locations.
