Furnishings

The basic furnishings of this house date back to the museum’s founding in 1922. The scientific basis for these was provided by the excavation findings from the 4th-century BC lake-dwelling settlements at Federsee, where simple hearths, baking ovens, wooden frames and sleeping benches were identified within the houses. Everyday objects such as fishing gear, weapons, tools for house-building and a bearskin for warmth have been found at Lake Constance. They reflect life in a Stone Age pile-dwelling. It is almost as if the inhabitants had just stepped out of the house.
