Bronze casting moulds

Bronze casting using sandstone moulds made it possible, for the first time in human history, to produce identical objects in large numbers.

There are three proven methods of bronze casting: casting in moulding sand, in a ceramic shell or in sandstone moulds. For the first two methods, a model is first required to create an impression in the soft materials. The models, for example in the shape of an arrowhead, can be made of wood or wax. They are destroyed during the casting process. A sandstone casting mould, on the other hand, can be used several times.
